1985 as a child artist in the film Vijetha. In 2001, he acted as a dancer in the movie Daddy and then gained a place in his film career with the movie Gangotri. The film was directed by K. Raghavendra Raogaru. The director of the second film Sukumar Arya made the film as the hero. He won his first Filmfare Best Telugu Actor Award and Nandi Special Jury Award in 2008 for this film. He ran Bunnymovie with V. V. Vinayak. The movie was a success at the box office.

Next, he acted in Deshamuduru with Puri Jagannath. He played the role of Bala Govindam in that movie. This movie also achieved good commercial success. After that film, he acted as Gona Ganna Reddy in 2015 in the biographical movie  Rudramadevi, directed by Guna Sekar. In this movie, he learned to speak Telangana language, Telugu. Allu bagged the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor in the movie Rudramadevi. And won the Nandi Award for Best Character Actor.

In 2016, Boyapati Srinu’s Sarainodu Moo was a box office hit, grossing over ₹127.6 crores. In the same year, Dil Raju produced DJ: Duvvada Jagannadham starring Pooja Hegde, Rao Ramesh, and Subbaraju as the hero. Next year’s writer-turned-director Vakkantham Vamsi directed Na Prama Surya Na Illu India, in which he plays an Indian Army soldier. The film was also a success at the box office, and Allu Arjun called the performance a “career best.”

In 2021, the movie Pushpa was shot based on the red sandalwood smuggling going on in the Seshachalam Hills of Andhra Pradesh. In this movie, Allu Arjun played the role of Pushpa Raj, a laborer-turned-smuggler. This movie was released in December 2021. It grossed over ₹3.5 billion at the box office. This movie will also have a sequel called The Rule.
